Listening but getting my son set for distance learning … be fully ‘on’ in a few.

Taylor Bloedon From Humboldt. Having a few tech issues

27:22
Same … lots of assessment concerns/questions

27:59
Same at Fresno State - lots of questions about when or if to use Respondus as well

28:07
CP SLO - we’ve “slowed down” after this summer’s wild ride, and we currently have one Intro to Online Teaching & Learning workshop (4-week) going on, with several people finishing up Q1 and others signed up for Q2. I’m revising our Quality Online Training Academy (QOTA) to create an on-campus review system for courses to prepare them for the CSU review (would love to hear how others are doing this as well!) and our biggest challenge is our lab courses - particularly in our Ag school. There is no virtual cow program that can do what our campus cows do…

28:33
Agree on assessment - concerns that exam questions appear on Chegg in real time during the exam...

33:49
Such a great point, Anne!

35:14
Yes, required use of cameras

35:40
No one should require camera use

36:22
Bb Ally has helped us fill some of those gaps, but those chasms are definitely still there

36:22
Why so, faculty ask, it’s seemingly impossible to conduct the course in faculty’ minds without required…

36:29
CSULB is creating a scenario based framework that organizes the CSU recommendations, requirements and guidelines.

Chico: we began our QLT workshop series last week. We are offering 5 workshops designed around the Core 24 standards (we will offer the 5 workshops once this Fall and twice in Spring 2021). The workshops are open to all faculty, but we offer compensation to 30 faculty who can commit to attend all workshops, complete all deliverables associated with them, and complete a final course review (that shows evidence of how the course meets the Core 24). We have 8 faculty who signed up for compensation, so far. We will reopen the call for applications in late Fall for Spring 2021. We will also use the QLT workshops as the basis for more robust training that we will be offering during intersession, in collaboration with Academic technologies. We asked the provost for approx 230K budget to serve 200 faculty and also have faculty mentors help faculty cohorts.

40:52
CSUSM: We are experience some resistance from faculty about going asynchronous versus synchronous, we have now some options between them like meeting 4 times per semester, or meeting once a week instead of 3 times a week. Also we are experience some ‘student app. Fatigue’ issues…we have trainings/workshops every week with some regular faculty attendance but is a small of us working, so that’s make it very hard to create a healthy safe space.

41:43
Sac State we have scheduled 5 QM reviews this AY, currently working on Fasc 30 Fashion & Human Environment, and a couple of Nursing courses coming up soon. Reviews include internal review then QM review. Also have a FLC around QM, one this semester and one next semester, geared towards having course meet standards.

42:06
CSUCI - Common Concerns include assessment. Which needs a pedagogical ‘rethink’ by many who are asking for proctoring tools. The unlearning is the challenge. Same issues with defining course modality and communicating that to students. Senate is still sitting on making a decision about course observation/SRTs for Fall. Teaching to the ‘black square’ is a common concern expressed by faculty teaching through video conferencing. Again, a pedagogical shift is at the heart of the concern, and supporting the mind-shift is the challenge. Upcoming webinar will specifically address a/synchronous and what to consider when choosing where certain content and interaction should ‘live’ in the course.

47:31
workload is definitely an issue

47:41
CSUB: Three TOPS sessions, QM and QLT trainings, weekly IT trainings. Students do not seem to know the difference between synchronous and asyc and do not appear ready for remote proctoring. It needs to become more of a norm for it to not create test anxiety, and feel like “big brother” is watching (remote proctoring is just recorded though)

47:46
and student engagement (or lack thereof)

47:59
^Definitely an increase in faculty workload

48:19
^Yes! And student fatigue or seeming ‘less engaged’

49:54
Thank you, all have to leave take care

52:14
Thanks Daniel for the reminder.

Love the virtual background, great color:)

55:52
In case people are interested - I created a revised QLT course evaluation tool that intersects online teaching with anti-racist, culturally relevant, and humanizing teaching practices that I’m using with a QLT-FLC that I’m running. Here’s the tool: https://bit.ly/2H1l0Wy

56:30
It includes the 24 central QLT objectives + additional anti-racist teaching practices

56:47
re: accessibility-- I try to 'sell' a 'culture of access' rather than compliance. But with everything else it is a 'hard sell.'

56:51
Thank you Daniel!

57:44
I’ve found it helpful to reframe discussions of accessibility: It is a civil rights issue. Few faculty will object to that approach.

58:59
thanks so much, Daniel!

59:31
Thank you, Daniel

59:36
Thank you, Daniel!

59:49
Daniel this is amazing work!

59:52
Thanks Daniel! This is excellent.

59:53
NILOA has a research library of equitable assessments; there is also an HBCU initiative on equity and inclusion in online assessments

01:00:34
Thank you Daniel!!

01:06:20
It's always great to have faculty develop things they'll use in their own courses, so I really like that.

01:07:02
Thank you everyone. I appreciate the support!

01:07:09
Examples would be great and much appreciated

01:08:46
Agreed (helping students understand the virtual classroom and how to be successful learners)

01:10:58
Thank you; it was great to hear everyone’s comments — definitely need to have the advanced course address equity and inclusion in some concrete way —

01:11:07
re: incorporating into course design and delivery

01:12:33
I have to sign off to take a break before my next Zoom meeting, since it is 2 hours

01:12:38
Bye everyone!

01:16:39
Thank you, everyone!

01:17:36
Thank you! Looking forward to learning more about the advanced QLT course. Nice to hear common concerns - it is very validating!

01:17:43
I have to leave for the next meeting.

01:18:12
Please excuse me if this has been covered before. Are campuses providing stipends to faculty during the academic year? Thank you for all the great information! Sheryl.hathaway@csulb.edu

01:19:53
we do, as part of the QLT workshops series (if they attend all workshops)

01:20:35
I have to leave for another meeting. Thanks, everyone!

01:20:50
Thank you everyone~

01:20:55
Thanks everyone! Jumping into another meeting and I am looking forward to feedback on the QLT Advanced course.

01:23:20
Thank you everyone. Great information

01:23:28
Thanks everyone!
