San Bernardino: (1) We are wrapping up the first year of our E-Learning Academy (16 faculty are redesigning campus bottleneck courses into QLT-centered online sections); (2) getting 2 courses ready for QLT certification; (3) in the process of designing summer professional development: baseline “QLT lite” moderated course + “choose your own adventure” prof. dev. pathways

Sac State - We had multiple zoom drop in sessions with CTL and IRT staff. IRT has added a link in Canvas with tutorials for various technologies. In May, CTL staff offering weekly webinars on different topics such as creating presence and alignment. Planning for summer is underway. We will have an asynchronous “Summer Camp” Will try to accept all faculty who apply. Will recruit colleagues throughout campus to serve as camp counselors (facilitators). We will roll out a campus wide transition survey this week.

Are the 200 faculty getting a stipend for attending?

13:05
yes

SF State update: We’re likewise looking in new directions for QLT at SF State. We’re replacing our campus QLT course certification process with a new badge for completing the QLT Online Teaching Lab (OTL). This is the only way we see to scale the demand for QA/QLT on our campus. Even the OTL is not easy to scale. We have 550+ faculty enrolled in the Lab with 200 active participants in our May Learning Community. Faculty receive a $500 stipend for completing the 3-week course and a teaching ePortfolio. We will offer a Summer Learning Community as well and will make adjustments to the Lab to better serve our community at this unprecedented (for us) scale. I’d love to hear how other teams have scaled their support. My team is really overwhelmed.

We've had multiple Zoom training sessions during the great pivot. We are now planning for summer training --something our campus has never done before.
Mihaela Popescu CSUSB
14:41
@Deb we have recruited faculty mentors because the instructional designers are overwhelmed
Chiara Ferrari
14:51
faculty mentors are receiving the equivalent of a course release so approx 6,000 each
Deb Perry - SF State
15:28
Ah @mihaela we are weighing that now. Wow. @ chiara I don’t think we can offer course releases, but are looking at an hourly rate 😀
Deb Perry - SF State
15:57
@mihaela how have you handled training your faculty mentors? And communicating about them with your particiants?
Chiara Ferrari
16:02
basically they receive a payment over the summer that matches that $6,000 rate, so it will not be an actual course release
Deb Perry - SF State
16:10
ah got it, thanks!
Chiara Ferrari
16:49
I think they are asked to work with faculty between the beginning of the summer institute (June 22, until August to make sure the course design is completed)
Deb Perry - SF State
17:26
SF State again 😀: Our theme for the OTL is Resilient Course Design (which includes low-bandwidth teaching and trauma-informed teaching and learning)
Chiara Ferrari
17:48
the response was overwhelming: 257 participants requests and approx 60 applications for faculty mentors

18:44
And same question to you @chiara how did you get your faculty mentors up to speed?
Chiara Ferrari
19:29
there is a committee that will select them and will train them and clarify the need to ensure the deliverables for the faculty participants

LA - We are offering our ALT-Instruction workshop series: http://www.calstatela.edu/cetl/alt-instruction Our Low Bandwidth Webinar has been attended by over 200 faculty already. We continue to offer it through July. We also adapted the QM Remote Instruction Checklist to help faculty focus on remote instruction (and not necessarily fully online course design). All of our CETL staff are busy with virtual support and facilitating webinars for ALT-Instruction. This certificate requires a deliverable (transparent assignment, instructor video, etc.)

We at CSUDH have four faculty mentors. We have worked with close to 160 faculty members. We need more support and doing a two week bootcamp in early summer with a strong QM component. The mentors that are running it as QM master reviewers.

Pathways for Digitally Enhanced Teaching, 3 different pathways guided by QLT framework. Pathway 1 Digitally Enhanced Teaching Certificate (choose 5 core workshops, 3 electives + meet QLT Core 24); Pathway 2 Pivot to Online Learning and Teaching Certificate (4 week online course + meet QLT Core 24); and Pathway 3 QLT Peer Review Certficate (QLT Peer Reviewers training, a few additional requirements).

Sonoma State University: We are designing a two-week, four module Course Design Summer Institute designed to assist those who have been nominated by their Chairs and Deans (the target audience of those who are most at risk, i.e. have little to no experience with the LMS or ed tech tools). We current have an enrollment of 127 with a cap of 150. We will run several cohorts with an ideal max enrollment of 15. We have one Faculty Center staff paired with one faculty mentor to facilitate each cohort. Participants will receive PD funds upon completion of the program.

Our new Director just started mid-January- her name is Rebecca Weller. At the time of the announcement of the pandemic, our campus was officially notified that we will be moving to Canvas. We only have one instructional designer. We are currently in the process of working with HR and going through the applications that were received before all this craziness happened. We are pushing our faculty to take the APPQMR or QLT trainings over the summer. Our Summer Institute facilitators have agreed to make a virtual Summer Institute. Our Provost is supporting everything we are doing.
